picky-eater-turned-foodie

when i was a kid, i was a notoriously picky eater. it ran in the family--my uncle was (and still kinda is) ridiculously picky. i once refused to eat kare kare, a traditional filipino dish, because it had "plants" in it. i was very set in my food habits and consistently refused to try anything new.

it was when i went to college that i started being intrigued by new things. no, wait--scratch that. in my junior/senior year of high school, i worked at a small bakery/cafe called mangiamo. they made some delicious food, including an amazing portobello mushroom sandwich. i think working there first made me really start to appreciate food and learn what flavors i liked and didn't like.

the food interest grew when i was in college, especially when i started dating my boyfriend, who hasn't met a whole lot of foods he doesn't like. and now here i am, loving food and trying new things. there are still certain dislikes from my childhood that i don't eat, such as celery, but overall i think i've come quite a long way from being a picky eater.

Once she told her grandparents she didn't like her mother's cooking because "Mom puts plants in the soup."
